In 1991, a Niagara wine captured Grand Prix D’Honneur, Vinexpo France
catapulting Canada onto the international wine stage. Previous to this,
Niagara was filled with diverse farms, orchards and vineyards.
Soon, farmers had visions of fame and fortune, leading them to replace
concord grapes with the likes of Cabernet Sauv, Cab Franc, Riesling,
Merlot and Chardonnay. As a result, the Niagara Region is recognized
not only for its beauty but also for its world class wines.
