Burnt Ship Bay selected as preferred wine of London Convention Centre

Niagara winery exceeds expectations in selection process

NIAGARA-ON THE-LAKE, Ont. (February 2, 2016) — Niagara’s Burnt Ship Bay wines have found another home in major Ontario convention centre.

Already available at select Ontario restaurants, golf courses, hotels and the Hockey Hall of Fame, the award-winning wines of Burnt Ship Bay will now be the preferred wines at the London Convention Centre (LCC). Home to conferences and conventions, concerts and comedy shows, parties and community gatherings, the LCC is in the midst of a $5-million renovation to expand and refresh its main floor meeting space, and adding Burnt Ship Bay wines

“We have always maintained that wine is the most social of beverages,” says Marcel Morgenstern, Sommelier and co-owner of Burnt Ship Bay Winery. “When networking during the cocktail hour of a conference or enjoying a night out with friends, fine wine adds to the experience. We are excited that Burnt Ship Bay Wines will be part of the that experience at the London Convention Centre.”

The London Convention Centre is committed to delighting guests with every act, and this includes providing products that live up to those standards.  The selection of such providers goes through a rigorous four-month process that includes three blind taste tests. Ultimately the decision is based on tastings, price point, regions and grape variety – and Burnt Ship Bay has exceeded those expectations.

It should also be noted that Burnt Ship Bay Winery — which takes its name from a bay on the Upper Niagara River that is reputed to be resting place of several treasure-laden French warships that were torched and sunk during the Seven Years’ War — and the LCC share a passion for local heritage.

“From the Great Lakes, through the Carolinian forest and across the fertile agricultural land, the London Convention Centre is steeped in representations that mirror the wider landscapes that surround the community in Southwestern Ontario, and boasts the use of fresh, local products found literally at the doorstep,” says Darrin Pollard, Director of Business Development at the London Convention Centre.  “For this reason it would only be fitting for the venue to take on a partner with similar beliefs in honouring the soil from which they came.”

Burnt Ship Bay’s Cabernet Merlot and Pinot Grigio are also available at the LCBO.
